        Yohji Cantar Daquio is a Filipina soprano who arrived from the Philippines in 2013 and has since established herself as a dynamic presence in opera. She holds a Master’s degree from The New School, where she received the Michael Sisca Award for Opera Excellence, and graduated cum laude from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. 

 

       Ms. Daquio has earned top honors at the Euterpe Music Awards (Berlin), Amadeus International Awards (Vienna), and the Century Opera Aria and Lucine Amara Art Song Competitions (New York). Some of her operatic highlights include The Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte, Canonchet in the world premiere of Canonchet, The Nightingale in the world premiere of Song of the Nightingale, The Girl in Mermaid in a Jar, and other leading roles. She has performed with OnSite Opera, Encore Opera, Zombie Opera (Undead Arts), Providence Opera, and others.

 

        She debuted at 16 years old singing at Stern Hall at Carnegie Hall with HaZamir. She has performed for over 5,000 attendees at the Sergio Franchi Memorial Concert with the American Ballet Orchestra, and received a standing ovation. She appeared in concerts receiving praise from Poland Daily News, Nowy Dziennik, Voce di Meche, and The Rhode Island Echo. Her solo recital at the Kosciuszko Foundation highlighted her growing demand as a recitalist known for her expressive range and compelling stage presence.

 

        She will debut and perform with the New Jersey Symphony and Encore Opera later this month. Yohji is also a proud William E Schmidt scholar. She is currently under the tutelage of Arthur Levy and Cristina Stanescu.
